CONSUL SPEECH :
Pompeia Minucia Strabo Consul Senatus Populesque Novae Romae S.P.D. My remarks are reasonably brief and to the point (very unusual behaviour for me :>)
Quirites...what can I
say? These Ludi were absolutely magnificent! I am so proud to be
associated with a group of citizens who work together so amicably to
produce such a memorable event.
The website detailing the Jupiter Parade was extremely
well done. If you didn't have a chance to look at it, or missed
publication of the link, do take a minute, here it is. Titus Iulius
Sabinus, you are a master.
The Certamen Historicum, so eloquently hosted by Tita
Artoria Marcella had a record number of participants for a contest
involving historical and cultural questions...nice to see. A great job
amica.
And to Tullia Scholastica (I *still* call her Flavia!)
and to Marcus Cassius Phillipus: your accounts of the sporting
competitions were creatively written, extremely witty ...some great
punchlines. Your account Phillipus depicting yourself and Flavia as
sniping at one another throughout the 'broadcast' was just too funny...all
in good fun of course.
We can often think, 'Oh, these games are virtual'...Yes
they are...but the memories, the laughs, the friendships we make by
working together to organize these events go beyond virtual...there is no
such thing as a *virtual* friendship in my view! Amicitia is amicitia!
Further, we learn alot about the Roman historical, cultural and religious
aspects in doing the research and participating in events like that
Certamen.
On behalf of both Consuls, I extend sincere appreciation
and congratulations to the Curule Aediles and all involved in making this
event an enjoyable one.
I look forward to next year's Ludi Romani.
Valete!
